CORTICON AND ADOBE TEAM UP TO STREAMLINE DOCUMENT PROCESSES AND WORKFLOW

Corticon BRMS Offers Unprecedented Control and Agility in Automating Dynamic Document Generation Decisions and Tasks

SAN MATEO, Calif., September 6, 2005—Corticon® Technologies today announced it is working with Adobe Systems Incorporated to provide Business Rules Management System (BRMS) capabilities for Adobe® LiveCycle™ Workflow. As part of the Adobe LiveCycle platform, the new process management capabilities in Adobe LiveCycle Workflow help organizations streamline and integrate document-centric processes.

Combined with Adobe LiveCycle, Corticon BRMS makes it easy to define the business rules governing decisions and workflows affecting the creation of complex electronic documents. Based on the integration, Adobe and Corticon have developed a solution for dynamic document generation utilizing business rules as a key driver. The solution automates these decisions with unprecedented business control and agility, resulting in significant advantages over competing BRMS and document management alternatives.

Corticon builds on the document and routing intelligence inherent in Adobe LiveCycle by adding the ability to define rules that automate the business decisions associated with document related tasks and processes. This capability is expected to be a boon to document intensive fields like insurance, banking, government and law.

"Corticon excels as a business rules system that uniquely allows non-technical users to create, maintain, verify, test and automate the decisions driving document processes without long or involved technology cycles," said Ivan Koon, senior vice president, Intelligent Document Business Unit at Adobe. "This ties in well with Adobe LiveCycle's highly-intuitive environment for visually assembling workflows. Together these offerings make it intuitive and easy for customers and partners to interact with forms and documents."

Meeting the Dynamic Document Generation Challenge
Adobe and Corticon have crafted a solution for dynamic document generation utilizing business rules as a key driver. Combining Adobe's Intelligent Document Platform with Corticon Business Rules, the companies have begun to attack the challenges inherent in assembling large and complex legal documents, a process that normally requires human intervention and weeks to complete for the typical document package. As an example, with complex loan processing, Adobe and Corticon utilize the information available in a commercial loan document captured via Adobe LiveCycle software and combine this with business controlled business rules from Corticon to dynamically select the legal documents required for a given loan. The solution then uses business rules to dynamically generate the legal documents on the fly.

Utilizing these combined technologies in a dynamic document generation solution, Adobe and Corticon eliminate much of the cost and time that it takes to generate document packages today. In one example, this combined solution generates initial loan documents within minutes of completing loan forms versus the traditional way, which could takes weeks and costs hundreds of dollars per document package.

The generation of complex documents based on business rules is applicable to many businesses including retail banking, credit and loan origination, financial market, insurance, telecommunications, healthcare, procurement, supply chain and government. One element that makes this solution unique is that it is usable by non-technical domain experts. Using the business friendly interfaces of these two companies, lawyers can maintain the business rules and document components without IT intervention. This allows the business to totally own, create and change the business rules and resulting legal documents at the speed of business.

"Documents processes are business-driven, close to users and customers and by design need to be fluid and adaptable," said Mark Allen, M.D., co-founder and CEO of Corticon Technologies. "Adobe's leadership in document-centric business process management ties in well with Corticon's user-centered design, and together offers our joint customer tremendous control and agility."
