DYNAMIC DOCUMENT GENERATION
Starting as "Database Publishing", but morphing into a modern version called "Document Composition" or "Document Automation", Dynamic Document Generation refers to IT-based systems that generate outbound correspondence in any document format from various data sources using formatting and process rules. Examples include legal documents, mortgage contracts, transaction confirmations, client correspondence, direct mail marketing, insurance policies, sales offers, etc. - in essence, any document that can be generated from existing data sources using defined rules.
Historically this area covered relatively simple, high volume correspondence where variables such as customer name were inserted to create a personalized document. Dynamic Document Generation take this concept to the next level. In the survey undertaken by META Group, 70% of respondents cited document production cost as being an organizational challenge. Dynamic Document Generation is able to handle extremely complex document generation such as a Commercial Loan Document Package, selecting the right legal documents and literally building each document in the loan package from the ground up, based on user managed business rules and document components (words, sentences or paragraphs of variable text).
Putting Control Back in the Hands of the Domain Experts
Today, production of complex documents usually includes manually intensive efforts with employees with expertise in preparing a specific type of document. The effort to produce the initial set of legal documents for a given transaction can take days or weeks, costs hundreds of dollars, and still require modification once the initial documents are provided to the approving organization.
According to Meta, survey results indicated the following percentages where LOB managers were either completely/highly involved or in control of the three stages of a document:
- Document definition 75%
- Document implementation 46%
- Document maintenance 44%
What if the experts who know exactly how documents should be formed could commit the knowledge of these rules into a simple form that they themselves could manage? Just as we have given spreadsheets to employees to create and manage financial decisions, we would be able to give an equally easy tool to manage document generation decisions.

What if those same individuals could manage and maintain the bits of text associated with the rules and could change the text or rules within minutes?
|
|
 |
What if the result was an ability to generate documents dynamically based on a complex set of inter-related variables, within minutes and with a significantly higher level of accuracy in the resulting document?
That is exactly what Dynamic Document Generation can do.

Corticon Business Rules Management and Dynamic Document Generation
Complex documents are variable. The simple part is inserting basic variables into a document, such as a name or loan amount. But what about when sub-sections (groups of words, sentences or paragraphs) within a larger section are variable based on the combination of multiple elements, such as the legal form of borrower (S-Corp, C-Corp, LLC, LLP, etc.), the state (50X), collateral (real estate, receivables, etc.). In this simple example there are 6800 potential combinations or business rules. How are you going to easily create, maintain and test these rules?
This is where Corticon rules based Dynamic Document Generation comes in.
Corticon is a powerful solution that will help you Model, Test and Automate the rules that govern your creation of complex documents. Corticon Business Rules Management enables you to manage your rules as executable models, defined and controlled through a business-friendly desktop, and automatically enforced across enterprise systems.
For example, with Corticon, anyone who can use Microsoft Excel® can model the rules that govern the creation of complex documents. Corticon's patent-pending technology then takes over and identifies where holes exist in the rules and where rules definition is ambiguous. Once your rules are modeled and corrected by the Corticon system, they are automatically converted into a standards-based software asset, which are used to automatically generate documents dynamically based on multiple inputs, such as a commercial loan application package.
When used to automate Dynamic Document Generation, Corticon Business Rules Management provides a complete audit trail, which provides clear traceability back to rules definition. This saves enormous legal and accounting costs should an audit ever be required.
Because Corticon Business Rules Management automates Dynamic Document Generation without latency, processes are transformed. Problems historically found in downstream control points can be eliminated at the beginning of the process.
